What is an assistive technology carephone?

An assistive technology carephone is a special system that can be used to quickly and easily send a message to call receiving centre in an emergency. When such a message is received, the centre contacts the customer (usually via the hands-free device in the home emergency call system) and clarifies the circumstances of the call. Depending on the situation, medical assistance can then be requested.

In addition, a home emergency call device often also has a passive alarm: this must be activated by the customer at agreed intervals (e.g. every 24 hours) to confirm that everything is OK. If the alarm is not triggered, the home emergency call provider attempts to make contact independently. If this contact fails, the agreed measures are initiated: Authorised persons can use a previously stored key to gain access to the home to check whether the customer is OK. This function can be switched off if necessary (e.g. during a holiday or a stay in hospital).

For whom is a home emergency call device useful?

A carephone is useful for anyone who wants security in an emergency and is dependent on outside help in certain situations.

Senior citizens: Living independently in your own home in old age – a wish that can be fulfilled. As senior citizens are statistically among the most vulnerable people for household accidents, a home emergency call can offer not only the senior citizens themselves, but also their relatives, the reassurance certainty that help is guaranteed quickly in an emergency.

People with disabilities: People with physical or mental disabilities also benefit enormously from the security offered by a home emergency call system.The ability to easily call for help in an emergency allows them to lead a more self-determined life.

Temporarily incapacitated persons: After an operation, stroke, heart attack or similar, those recovering receive intensive, but not usually round-the-clock care from their family doctor and nursing services. Many home emergency call providers rent out systems that allow you to call for help in an emergency while you are recovering at home.
